Women Against Abuse is a leader in advocacy and direct services to victims of domestic violence. Last year, WAA provided emergency housing, legal services, hotline counseling, education and training, and advocacy to 11,409 individuals in the Philadelphia area.

Arlene Barst , an RSVP member of The Volunteer Center of Westchester and Putnam Counties, New York, began her community service 15 years ago in The Bronx, New York, where she spent time feeding patients at a nursing home and a hospital. When she moved to New Rochelle, New York in 1999, Arlene continued her services at the United Hebrew Geriatric Center, helping to make the residents there as comfortable as possible. "I feed residents who can't feed themselves. I keep them company, wheel them around -- anything to make them happy,"
